MFA

Absurd bureaucracy, intense assignments, and classmates that alternate between deeply inspiring and beyond ridiculous. Welcome to the world of low-residency Master of Fine Arts (MFA) programs.

Approximately 3,000 people graduate with an MFA in creative writing each year and more than 20,000 people apply to programs nationwide. MFA programs attract a wide range of talent and a diverse group of individuals. Every year, these low-res MFA programs pump out thousands of writers. To date, no film or television series has ever focused exclusively on a graduate creative writing program.

This comedy series follows writers Graham and Maya who become fast friends at their low-residency MFA Program at Oak Manor College in Boston, Massachusetts. Maya is a writer of young adult fiction and Graham, who has been in the program for a year already, writes science fiction. As the school tests their values and relationship, they’ll soon learn that being a writer is less glamorous and fulfilling than it seems—but they wouldn’t have it any other way.
