Biography


I'm a fiction writer and essayist based in Boston. I’m the author of the 2023 short story collection, The Healing Book (Finishing Line Press), which was a finalist in the 2023 Best Book Awards and a recommended read from Kirkus Reviews. I’m also the author of the 2022 novel, The Empathy Academy (Atmosphere Press), which won Gold in the Literary Titan Book Awards and was a distinguished favorite in the 2023 NYC Big Book Awards. My creative nonfiction has appeared in newspapers, magazines and literary journals, such as The LA Review of Books, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, New Scientist, VICE, Outside.com, Salon, and Writer’s Digest. I've won two Solas Awards for Best Travel Writing and an honorable mention from the North American Travel Journalists Association Travel Media Awards Competition. I brought my personal essays together in the 2023 book, Lost & Found (Peter Lang Group), which was a finalist in the 2024 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. Additionally, I host the podcast, Curiously. I hold an MFA in fiction from the Solstice MFA Program, an MS in physiology from Penn State, and a BA in psychobiology from Wheaton College (MA). I grew up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
